Let The Home Improvement Projects Begin... Laundry Room Here We Come

Being on quarantine for weeks on end had us taking advantage of the newly found time and getting things done in our house. We had a list of improvements we had wanted to do for a while but being that our schedules are so crazy we never were able to get around to them.

One of the things on our list was our laundry room. We have been living in our house for almost 9 years and while we have done some things around the house, our laundry room has been one of those rooms that we kept turning a blind eye to. We added some shelving in at some point to add more storage but a complete overhaul was something we never really got around to doing.

Bring on quarantine. One of the first things that popped into our minds when we found out we were going to be on stay at home orders until who knows when was our laundry room. We knew it needed to be done and now that my husband wasn't going to be working for a bit and I was at home now was the perfect opportunity to just get it done. It was also a great way to stay busy and occupied when there was nothing else to do.

We started with a complete gut of the room. I mean EVERYTHING was going (except the washer and dryer which we just purchased). **FULL DISCLOSURE: My husband did this completely on his own. I had to work during the week so while I was working and the kids were doing school work he spent his time tearing down everything in the room.

Once things were down the updates began. I am so thankful to have a husband who is able to do this. The great thing about it to was it was so much fun for us. There is nothing we love better than planning things together so to be able to redesign our laundry room gave us a new found motivation. He also got my son involved in part of the work.

Picking out the flooring, paint color, and the cabinets as well as planning out the layout of the room got me motivated to completely redo the whole house! (OK, Hold on there Jo! One thing at a time! Let's stick with the laundry room!)

We stuck with a pretty neutral palette and kept with the same wall color that we had in our kitchen. I've always loved the look of white cabinets (something I wanted to do in my kitchen but that is a project for another time). I love the fact that my husband is just as passionate about the look of the room as I am. We are able to challenge each other when going through options and honestly, sometimes his ideas end up being better than mine! We have collaborated on a lot of things but this was the first major renovation we took on in our home and I couldn't have been happier with the results.

Overall the work took about 2 weeks to do. I loved seeing my husband motivated to get it done and it was so nice to not dread going into my laundry room or feeling embarrassed when someone else had to go in there. I can't wait for our next project to being. We have some many things that we want to get done now that we have started on this adventure and I will be sure to share them all with you.
